Indian Pipe

In summer, in July & August -- often after a rain -- you will find these quiet creatures sprouting up all over the woods around Long Island (and throughout the Northeast). They creep in quietly -- small and white, looking like little curved pipes. And you might think they are an odd fungus (mushroom), but they're not!
